Help Needed to Beautify Downtown this Summer

Downtown Alpena is getting ready for another busy summer season and is looking for help to get the downtown ready for visitors and locals to enjoy. The Alpena Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is working with the Friends of Alpena Gardens, the City of Alpena, and local community members to beautify the downtown by adding more flowers and cleaning up the district after the winter months. The Alpena Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is looking for artists who are interested in painting vibrant murals in Downtown Alpena, Michigan this summer as part of the Fresh Waves project. Alpena Ice Festival this Saturday

If you’re looking for something fun to do this wintry Saturday, then look no further than the Thunder Bay Arts Alpena Ice Festival! The festival begins at Mich-e-kewis Park at 9am with plenty of ice & snow activities, unique ice sculptures, food trucks and a huge bonfire put on by the Alpena Fire Department. Alpena Plans First Ever Downtown New Years Eve Celebration

In just a few weeks, Alpena will be hosting its first-ever New Year’s Eve event in Downtown Alpena. The event will feature a lit sphere being raised at midnight as a special “sunrise,” drink and food specials at downtown bars and restaurants, DJ’s from 9 pm- 1 am, and firepits to warm up by in the alleyway. Throughout the years you always know it’s the holiday season in Downtown Alpena when you see the lit garland wrapped around the lampposts, decorated storefronts, and the giant Christmas tree in Culligan Plaza.
