Help Needed to Beautify Downtown this Summer
Downtown Alpena is getting ready for another busy summer season and is looking for help to get the downtown ready for visitors and locals to enjoy. The Alpena Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is working with the Friends of Alpena Gardens, the City of Alpena, and local community members to beautify the downtown by adding more flowers and cleaning up the district after the winter months. Alpena Plans First Ever Downtown New Years Eve Celebration
In just a few weeks, Alpena will be hosting its first-ever New Year’s Eve event in Downtown Alpena. The event will feature a lit sphere being raised at midnight as a special “sunrise,” drink and food specials at downtown bars and restaurants, DJ’s from 9 pm- 1 am, and firepits to warm up by in the alleyway. Downtown Alpena’s Christmas Past: A Photographic Journey
Throughout the years you always know it’s the holiday season in Downtown Alpena when you see the lit garland wrapped around the lampposts, decorated storefronts, and the giant Christmas tree in Culligan Plaza. Before the tree was put in Culligan Plaza in the 80s the city decorated the pine tree in front of City Hall. Some of the earliest photos we have of the downtown Christmas tree date back to 1966!
