This spring, the Alpena Downtown Development Authority will be replacing the banners on the tall light posts throughout downtown. Rather than ordering stock designs, the DDA is hosting a Downtown Banner Art Competition, calling for local artwork that showcases the creativity and vibrancy of our community.
This year’s theme for artwork is “Downtown Vibes.” We want to see what inspires you about our downtown. What makes our downtown unique? What do you think defines Downtown Alpena specifically?
The Banner Art Competition will be accepting entries from now until April 20th. Digital entries may be emailed to downtownalpenami@gmail.com. Paper entries should be submitted flat in a protective envelope. All designs entered into the competition must be the artists original work and each person may submit up to three different designs. Submissions must be 20 inches wide and 40 inches tall and may be scaled down for submission purposes. Designs may be enhanced for printing purposes, or cropped to fit the dimensions if not submitted in the appropriate size.
Individuals of all ages and abilities are encouraged to submit a work of art: adults, students, seniors, children and families.
Personally, something I have always loved about this community is the creative spirit that seems to unite us all. Creativity comes in all forms, regardless of identity and I love that our downtown community is a place where that is celebrated. I am so excited to see what submissions we receive from this wonderful and artistic community!
