The Alpena Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is looking for artwork to highlight on a new set of banners downtown that will be hung for the 2020 holiday season. The DDA is seeking art from local artists that will replace the current winter banners that are displayed on the tall lampposts throughout the downtown.
Artists may submit up to three different designs that celebrate the wonder and magic of winter in Downtown Alpena. All artwork must be original, and entries cannot be photography or have any text on them. For each design chosen, the artist will receive $100. Each artist may submit up to three designs, and entries must be received by January 30, 2020.
The Alpena DDA did a similar call for artwork this spring for the set of banners that were hung this summer. This summer’s artwork was created by Sheri Emerson, an international artist who resides seasonally in Alpena, and Mariah Brancheau, a student at Alpena High School.
Instead of choosing a generic design for our new banners, the DDA wants to highlight local artwork that reflects the creative spirit of our community. Anyone is welcome to submit artwork, young or old.
