The Alpena Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is excited to announce the location for the second mural for Fresh Waves 2022! This next mural, and the final one for the summer, will be painted at 228 S. Third Ave by Tim Nijenhuis. This mural will be painted on the side of the building where the Light of Hope Clubhouse, an organization that is a community that is designed to support individuals living with mental illness through meaningful work and relationships, is located.

Tim is our first international artist as he will be coming to Alpena from Hamilton, Ontario in Canada to work on this mural project. The painting will begin on August 15th and will end on August 26th, 2022.
“Whatever I find to do, I do with all my might. It is an honor to be able to make a living as an artist. My work as an artist contributes to society and provides opportunities for people to be entertained and inspired. I am an artist because that’s the right thing for me to do with my time, energy, talents, and faith,” said artist Tim Nijenhuis in his artistic vision statement.
“I strive to be a positive force in the life of others. My art can make a difference in a negative context, creating beauty out of ugly things, or enhance a positive context, expanding opportunities to celebrate life. Being involved in this process, I know I am fulfilling my calling as a human being; I am being true to the person I am meant to be.”

The location of this mural will give a new life to the side of this building, and we are excited for the community to see what Tim can do with it. If you are in Downtown Alpena this August, be sure to stop by this mural once it has reached completion to check it out!
