The Alpena Downtown Development Authority in conjunction with downtown businesses will be hosting the first ever Downtown Gingerbread Competition. For $10 anyone can enter a gingerbread creation into the contest. All creations will be on display in several downtown businesses December 15th – 22nd.
Everyone is encouraged and welcome to participate in this friendly competition of holiday cheer– businesses, teams, coworkers, families, kids, teenagers, adults, even scrooges and grinches. We’re hoping to give everyone a reason to come downtown and check out stores and shops that they might not normally go into, or haven’t been to in while.
The best part about the Downtown Gingerbread Competition? You can enter ANYTHING! It doesn’t have to be a house. It can be anything you dream up, as long as it’s family friendly.

Downtown patrons will be able to vote for their favorite creation using ballots. Ballots will be available at the DDA Office, and you can receive additional ballots with every purchase you make at a downtown business. You can then vote for your favorite creation and deposit your ballot in a box at any of the locations where gingerbread creations are displayed.
There will be First, Second and Third place winners based on the popular vote. First Place will get their name on the Golden Gingerbread Cup and $100 in Downtown Dollars. Second Place will receive $75 in Downtown Dollars. Third Place will receive $50 in Downtown Dollars.
Registration opens here today and forms will be available for pick up and drop off in the following downtown businesses tomorrow through December 12th.
